WASTE SILK Silk that is unsuitable for reeling is known as ‘waste silk’. The fibres in waste silk are short or tangled, depending on the type of waste. See Basin Waste. These are cleaned, de-gummed, carded and combed and then spun to produce spun silk yarns.
