THROWN SILK
Thrown Silk
Raw silk yarn that has been twisted or doubled. Thrown silk can take three forms:
- Single yarn, used in weaving very fine fabrics
- Tram, which are two or more yarns twisted together; and
- Organzine, which is twisted one way and then doubled and twisted the other way.
Nowadays most yarn to be used in weaving is machine-thrown.
