Name given to ikat sarees woven in Sambalpur, Sonepur, Butapali and such towns in the western hill regions of Orissa. They are woven in both Tussar as well as mulberry silk, the latter becoming more popular with wearers outside Orissa. Other Orissa bandh sarees (loosely termed ‘Sambalpuri’) carry lines of rudraksha designs along the borders in white yarn.
