The knotting and twisting of the warp threads of the main body of the saree with the new contrast yarn of the pallu, special to the Kanchivaram tradition. This part shows as a solid two-toned band of one to two inches from border to border between the main body of the saree and the pallu. In other silk weaving centres of Tamil Nadu this technique, with a difference, is referred to as benth. The picture shows the lines of join of pallu to the body of the saree. The excess yarn is cut off close to the lines of joining.
