Pat or Paat Silk is produced in Assam. The silkworms feed on mulberry leaves, and the sarees are usually white or off-white. But now to meet consumer demand, they are dyed. Pat silk is used in creating the traditional Assamese Megala Chaddars (wedding sarees). It comes from the word Pat meaning ‘pure’ (white). Some Pat silk also comes from the northwest Himalayan regions, like Kashmir and regions near Afghanistan.
