A device to separate warp yarns on the loom to guide them to the warp beam before weaving can begin. Also called a reed or reed-comb. They are made out of very fine strips of bamboo on handlooms, or, in the case of mechanical weaving, metal. The warp yarns have to be threaded through the dents (tiny spaces) between the ‘teeth’ of the reed in readiness for weaving. Also called a ‘Warper’.
