Literally, ‘running water’, a fine Dacca muslin. So fine were Dacca muslins that Emperor Aurangzeb is said to have chastised his daughter for not wearing anything when she was fully clothed in an abrawan garment. Now abrawans come in a silk gauze, and with zari brocade work, are as ethereal in their beauty as the legendary muslins. They are one of the types of brocades woven in Banaras.
